c. 1941

  • Silk-Flyers "Escape" Map
  • (WWII -Pacific ) Ocean Currents and Surface Winds For the West Pacific Area November - April...

This is what we put in the hands of flyers in WW II. As you had your mission in the Pacific theatre, this map was supplied to you in the terrible case that you went down and needed to make it to land. Showing the winds and ocean currents from Japan to Australia and the nearby South Pacifc this map would be a life line to help you orient and make it to safety. Printed on silk, it would be waterproof, wouldn't have folds, and would be easy to conceal. With one large map and five inset maps that show wind speeds and directions for each month from December to April. Printed on only one side, this is indeed printed on silk and has a rough cut margin. Prominently states on the bottom "Restricted" .
