In the late 1960's and early 70's, Nepal was a type of tourist attraction, specifically to Katmandu and "Freak Street" in Darbar square. The Hippies of the time found out about the government run hashish shops and cheap accomodations and it became a center for many of the travelling disaffected youths of the time. Darbar square began to host a vibrant counter-culture scene of young people, but that all changed when the government stopped the hashish trade and imposed dress codes for tourists. These new restrictions were apparently pressed on the Nepali government by the U.S. as anti-drug policies in vogue. Here in 1975 we see "His Majesty's Government of Nepal" entreating visitors to return, and this map even includes an inset for Darbar square, but the party was over, and tourist traffic would remain slow.
Condition is very good with some light marginal manuscript writing. Image size is approximately 18 x 26 (inches)
