Thomas Moran was a English born artist that found his fame in the US and whose life direction was change with his first visit to the American West. He served as illustrator for the Hayden Expedition into the Yellowstone area, and later served as artist when Hayden began his great study and mapping of the Colorado Territory.
This print by Moran shows the area south of present day Avon and Vail.
